St Mary’s church is a Grade 1 listed building. The timber post on the tower roof was very weathered and water was tracking down into the roof structure. The parishioners were granted 80% of the project cost by the Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund, and had a generous grant from the Shropshire Historic Churches Trust. They also did a massive amount of fund-raising themselves. We were able to replace the whole of the tower roof and repair the tower stonework around the belfry and improve the rainwater disposal system. Just after the contract started a tornado hit the chancel roof and demolished several trees in the churchyard, so repairs to the chancel parapet were added in to the contract. The project team worked well together, and the contractors have done excellent work.
